The future of the built environment is shaped by the ways people imagine it. In Eschen, we worked with residents over the course of a year to develop a shared vision for the future of the village centre.
We began with more than 160 pupils, exploring how children experience Eschen today and what they wish for tomorrow
Through round-table discussions with neighbourhoods, organisations and interest groups, we gathered concerns, tested ideas and developed new proposals together.
In a more in-depth collaboration with one school class, pupils documented their school routes, evaluated safety and quality, built models, made collages and shared stories from everyday life.
A pub quiz in the local pub helped us reach people beyond the usual formats of participation and invited them to imagine futures for Eschen in a playful way.
At a public town-hall workshop, we discussed and refined the ideas that had emerged, from housing and neighbourhood streets to amenities in the centre.
These engagements helped us understand Eschen’s qualities and challenges and shape a shared future vision now nearing completion.
